Brighton's Birthday

I wanted to make sure I wrote down everything I remember about the day Brighton was born.  I'm not sure I did with the boys and just want to have it.  So you don't have to read any further if you don't want to!  Anyway, I had a regular doctor's appointment on Monday morning (March 5).  I was supposed to be maintaining bed rest the week before but since I was over 37 weeks I decided to do normal, everyday things.  I took the boys to school, fed them breakfast, and did all the normal things I do throughout the week.  All that to say, I was feeling a lot of pressure and was pretty sure the baby had moved down.  I had myself convinced we would have a baby once we went to the doctor.  Turns out I was right.  After getting weighed (I had lost 4 lbs, bringing my total pregnancy weight gain to 9 lbs) the doctor came in.  She checked me and sure enough I was dilated to a 5!  She wanted me to go right to the hospital and check in while Lee went home and got our bags.  I quickly called everyone to tell them it was baby day!  Price and Hayes had been with my mom while we were at the appointment so she took them to Kyle and Marci's house to play with the girls.  Let me just say that it was so nice to know that the boys were having such a fun time with their cousins.  I didn't have to worry about them for once and that was such a relief.  My mom came to the hospital soon after that while Lee's mom was in transit from Kirbyville.  I got checked in, hooked up to monitors and started having pretty regular contractions.  I had been fasting because I had to have my blood drawn every Monday at my appointments.  I wasn't allowed to eat anything once I checked in so i was starving.  The lack of liquids also made getting an IV almost impossible.  The nurse tried 4 different spots before finding one that worked.  Ugh! There was a lot of sitting around waiting for Dr. Wang to come in on her lunch break from seeing patients.  In the mean time, I got my epidural.  When she finally arrived around 2 pm she broke my water and started me on some pitocin.  The contractions got stronger and closer together from then on.  I was still able to feel things on my left side so about 20 minutes before delivery the anesthesiologist came in and gave me a little extra push of medicine on that side. After that I was pain free.  The nurse checked and I was only dilated to a 6.  About 20 minutes later I was having very strong pressure so she checked again. She had me try pushing and immediately told me to stop because she needed to call Dr. Wang.  My mom decided to stay in the delivery room this time so it was her, me and Lee in there.  Once the doctor arrived Lee took my left leg, the nurse took my right and with 3 pushes Brighton was born.  It was the easiest, most pain free birth I have had.  (I felt way too much with the boys!)  My mom was mesmerized by the whole process and was so glad she stayed to watch.  Lee was just relieved that it was all over (he doesn't so much love being in the room when the kids are born!) and Brighton was here and healthy.  I had been worried that she would be taken from us once she was born to have her glucose levels checked but that didn't happen.  She stayed in the room with us the whole time and it was so great to watch them clean her up, weigh and measure her and then finally get to hold her.  I kept having lee take pictures with my phone so I could see what she looked like.  On first impression I thought she looked a lot like Hayes.  She still does some to me, just not as much.  Once everything was cleaned up we let the family come in and see her.  They were thrilled.  She took right to nursing and has been great ever since.  We got moved to our room and the boys came to meet their little sister.  I'll save all of that and the complications that came with the next couple of days for the next post!
Here are some pics from the day:
All hooked up and ready to go
