Trauma

The day before Brightons birthday we were getting ready to meet some friends at the park. All 3 kids were playing around the house while I got lunches ready for the park. I knew B had gone into the bathroom so I went in there and took up the trash can and closed the toilet lid. You know, I took away all the things that would hurt her. She was playing happily beside the tub so I went back to making lunches. Then I heard the most horrible noise I have ever heard. I knew immediately that it was the sound of teeth hitting the bathtub. Then the crying started. I ran I'm and scooped her up trying to look at her teeth. It was bloody but I could see shards of her teeth on her tongue. I started to freak out a little. I called Lee and told him he needed to come home while I laid Brighton down to get a really good look at her teeth. I could tell they were still there but her top two front teeth had been chipped pretty badly. She was still crying but not a lot at this point. (I think I was crying more than she was) I got her a cold rag to bite on to stop the bleeding and Lee walked in on the phone with the doctor. He told us to go ahead and bring her in. My mom came to keep the boys and we went to the doctors office. He confirmed that her teeth were pretty chipped but there were no major lacerations that he needed to fix so he sent us on to a pediatric dentist. We saw Dr. Cox and I was so impressed. He was so kind and gentle with Brighton. She was SO good. She let them take an X-ray and let him feel all around in her mouth without shedding one tear. Her X-ray showed that more that her roots are still in tact and other than the cosmetic affects she will more than likely be okay in the future. We go back at the beginning of April for another check. Poor baby will be stuck with front teeth that are chipped until she gets her permanent ones but it could have been so much worse. It was a long and hard day on all of us. I told Lee I felt like I'd run a marathon when we finally came back home. There is nothing more exhausting than watching your baby hurt. I am so thankful that we had great experiences at the doctor and dentists offices and that she wasn't hurt worse than she was. It was a pretty scary day and I am so glad it's over! Here are her teeth the day it happened. They have come down a little further now so when she smiles it just kind of looks like her top teeth aren't all the way in yet.
